Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz‘s sorry attempt to mock J.D. Vance‘s (R-OH) encounter with several employees at a bakery last week backfired spectacularly, leaving him more exposed than ever.
Speaking with reporters during a campaign appearance in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Walz appeared to knock Vance, who struggled to hold a conversation with a worker at Holt’s Sweet Shop in Valdosta, Georgia.
U.S. Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) chimed in on X.
“Can confirm!” she responded to a story about Walz’s visit while sharing a photograph of her and the Governor devouring a box of donuts outside of Daube’s Cakes in Rochester, Minnesota.
However, online sleuths quickly uncovered that Walz’s COVID-19 lockdown policies caused the bakery to close its doors permanently in 2020.
“It turns out the bakery that Sen. Tina Smith and Tim Walz are at in this photo, Daube’s Cakes, closed its doors for good after over 30 years in June 2020 due to Walz’s COVIDWalz’ lockdowns,” Greg Price wrote in response to Sen. Smith’s post.
Daube’s Cakes closed in 2020, after 32 years in business—all because of the Governor’s pandemic lockdown policies.
The company attempted to reinvent itself as an online store for baked goods, relying on social media to reach its customers.
“We thank you all for your support and patronage over the years and are looking forward to continuing to serve the Rochester area with delicious cakes and products in a different format,” the business wrote on Facebook.
Several other retail and service sector businesses in Rochester have shuttered in recent months, many of which have been attributed to Walz’s stringent shutdown policies.
According to MedCityBeat, a smoothie and sandwich shop, Tonic Juice Bar, and the popular Hibachi grill Jenpachi Japanese Steak House have also been forced to close.
Walz’s embarrassment follows reports that retired military officers accused him of “stolen valor.”
As we reported earlier this week, Journalist Megyn Kelly announced her upcoming interview with veterans of the Minnesota National Guard, who said Walz has “absolutely no integrity.”
One military veteran denounced Walz as a narcissist, saying, “It is morally indefensible. He didn’t care. It was all about him.”
A third called Walz a “military impersonator.”
“I don’t understand how you do it morally,” the first veteran added.
