Prominent academic and New York Times columnist John McWhorter has declared it would be a good thing somebody assassinated former President Donald Trump.
In a new episode of “The Glenn Show” with Brown University economics professor Glenn Loury, McWhorter said, “I have taken a great deal of heat for saying, for implying, that I wish somebody would kill Donald Trump.”
“That is exactly what I was implying. It was irresponsible of me to say that in a public space. I really shouldn’t have said it here.”
However, McWhorter acknowledged that his remarks were not a one-off.
“I have said it often,” he admitted.
(The podcast can be found here; the conversation starts at 4:04, and McWhorter’s non-apology apology begins at 17:49.)
But it seemed that McWhorter’s calls for assassination were too much for Loury.
“Do you realize the hell that will be unleashed on the country if people continue to talk like that?” he said.
“This is not something that you just casually throw around – killing politicians who you don’t like…” Loury added.
“Do you think it ends there? Do you think that if somebody were to do something along the lines that you’re suggesting, that would be the end of it?”
McWhorter responded:
“Well, somebody else would run (as the Republican nominee). Anyone but (Trump) would be better.”
If any conservative called the assassination of President Joe Biden, they would have swarms of FBI agents at their home, followed by a swift criminal prosecution by the Justice Department.
However, McWhorter needn’t worry. Political violence is ok if it coming from the other side.
McWhorter knows that he’ll get a free pass.
The columnist also acknowledges that New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution of Trump was “clearly partisan,” but he’s fine with that.
“I think Trump is such an extraordinary phenomenon, I would be happy if what Bragg did, despite being partisan, made it so that Trump couldn’t run the country anymore,” McWhorter said.
While Loury attempted to reason with McWhorter, his Trump derangement syndrome began to kick in.
“It’s immoral to subvert the law, which you acknowledge is being done, in order to beat somebody who you cannot beat at the polls,” Loury said.
The TDS sufferer, who described Trump as “a megalomaniacal moron … immoral … a pig … utterly incompetent … a 5-year-old … with the mental capacity of one of the smarter baboons … and a casual racist,” wrote in the New York Times about “rumors” that Trump had used the n-word on “The Apprentice,” while failing to produce any evidence that it happened.
Like most TDS sufferers, McWhorter has no sense of irony and is immune to facts.
For instance, he claimed Trump “would take this country closer to autocracy” and frets that Trump “wants to persecute his enemies just because they don’t like him.”
Unbeknownst to McWhorter, the irony is that this is precisely what’s happening to Trump.
