Former First Lady Michelle Obama has refused to campaign for President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign after insiders revealed she is unhappy that the First Family shunned a close friend after her divorce from Hunter Biden.
Hunter, who was recently convicted on federal gun charges, was previously married to Michelle Obama’s close friend Kathleen Buhle before separating after 24 years in 2017.
The Biden camp then abandoned the former daughter-in-law, which enraged Michelle Obama.
Michelle became extremely close with Buhle during President Barack Obama‘s second term and also became close with then-Vice President Biden, his wife, and sons, Axios reported.
Hunter and Buhle divorced in 2017, almost two years after Beau Biden died of cancer.
Things became weird when Hunter began dating Beau’s former wife, Hallie Biden.
The same year, Obama attended a fundraiser for the Beau Biden Foundation in Wilmington, Delaware, but Michelle was conspicuously absent.
The former president reprotley described the Biden family dynamics as some “weird s***,” according to sources.
Hunter wrote about the bond forged between Michelle and his ex-wife in his 2021 memoir, revealing they “worked out together at the gym and often had evening cocktails at the White House, at both formal and informal events.”
The friendship transcended into business in 2022 when Buhle relied on Michelle’s publisher to distribute her memoir.
Michelle reportedly told confidants that she believes the Bidens have wronged her close friend.
While Obama continued supporting Biden on the campaign trail, Michelle has been absent and hasn’t even posted on social media supporting the Democratic incumbent’s campaign.
Notably, Michelle Obama was dragged into participating in Biden’s 2020 campaign, only to stop Donald Trump from being re-elected.
A White House spokesman dismissed the rumors of a rift, saying in a statement:
“The Biden and Obama families are like family to one another, and whoever made these claims about that relationship isn’t familiar with it.”
“The former President and First Lady have been two of the strongest supporters of President Biden’s leadership and agenda,” the spokesman continued.
Is there another reason Michelle Obama isn’t supporting Biden’s campaign?
Many have argued the Democrats are quietly prepping the former First Lady to replace Biden ahead of the 2024 election.
As we reported earlier this year, a survey showed that Obama was the preferred choice among Democrats to replace the aging 81-year-old Joe Biden if he drops out of the 2024 presidential race.
Even though Michelle Obama hasn’t announced she is even running (yet), she came out on top of other high-profile possible replacements, including Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, and Hillary Clinton.
However, despite Michelle Obama expressing she does not intend to run, she has failed to address the mounting speculation about her candidacy if Biden were to step down.
Obama has already gained support from 20% of Democrats, who now view her as the preferable alternative to Biden.
