Disgraced pedophile former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was left in critical condition in a hospital after being stabbed in the neck in a targeted attack in the Prison where he is serving a 35-year sentence for crimes including the rape of an 11-month-old baby.
Watkins, 46, was taken hostage by three other inmates at HMP Wakefield, UK, before the stabbing occurred.
According to sources, the Lostprophets singer has a ‘target on his back’ as prison inmates bided their time before he was stabbed in the neck.
Prison officers waited for an armed ‘Tornado’ team of specially-trained riot officers to break up the hostage situation, the Sun reported.
Officers hurled stun grenades into the cell to free Watkins from the other inmates after they stormed the wing.
The former Lost Prophets singer was jailed 35 years in 2013 for 13 offenses against children, including the attempted rape of an 11-month-old baby.
Watkins was attacked by three ‘heavy-duty’ prisoners and was ragged into a cell which was then barricaded by the gang.
The pedophile singer was ‘screaming’ and in fear for his life as he was taken hostage, according to the Sun.
As the Daily Mail reported:
The attack began at around 9 am on Saturday and lasted six hours until Watkins could be freed.
The source added:
“Watkins is obviously unpopular because of who he is – and has been walking around with a huge target on his back.
“They got him on a Saturday, which is generally quieter with less staff on, and it seems to have been planned.
People heard he was in a bad way when he came out, but he will probably survive.
He was taken to Leeds and was still in hospital.”
The Mirror reported that Watkins was ‘battered’ before being stabbed as paramedics were seen giving life-saving treatment outside the Prison.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an incident which took place on Saturday at HMP Wakefield. We are unable to comment further while the Police investigate.”
Watkins admitted conspiring to rape a child, three counts of sexual assault involving children, seven involving taking, making, or possessing indecent images of children, and possessing an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal, the Mail notes.
