Vice President Kamala Harris has found a new way to avoid taking questions from journalists between campaign events: using headphones.
As we reported on Monday, Harris still needs to hold an official press conference despite just 62 days left until the presidential election.
Her refusal to talk to the press has made her a target of critics, including former President Donald Trump.
Harris has sat down for just one interview in the 40 days since President Biden suspended his re-election campaign.
However, that interview, aired on CNN, raised eyebrows after Harris was joined by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
But Harris has yet to sit for a solo interview or hold a formal press conference and has largely avoided taking impromptu questions from the media.
As her campaign became aware of the optics, Harris employed a new strategy to avoid the press altogether.
Harris could be seen wearing headphones as she departed from Joint Base Andrews for a campaign event in Detroit, Michigan after she gave reporters a dismissive wave as she boarded the plane.
Many social media users expressed outrage over the vice president’s total lack of media availability.
“Kamala Harris has now started wearing headphones when getting out of the motorcade to avoid reporters. Totally UNFIT to be President,” said independent journalist Nick Sorter.
The Trump War Room X account also weighed in:
“If you’re going to pretend that you’re on your phone in order to avoid answering questions from the press, you should probably do a little bit better of an acting job than holding your phone up to your ear while wearing wired headphones,” the campaign wrote.
Further, Harris still hasn’t released a formal policy platform, only introducing a few policies relating to a handful of issues, including price controls on grocers and $25,000 tax credits for “first-time homebuyers.”
Unsurprisingly, the campaign also flip-flopped on Biden-Harris Administration policies, including the need for a border wall.
She is set to debate Donald Trump on September 10. However, reports suggest she may pull out.
