Leftist Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suffered a shocking defeat in the liberal stronghold dubbed “Fortress Toronto,” spelling disaster for him in the next general election.
The defeat is an embarrassing loss for Trudeau, who traveled to St Paul’s in a desperate bid to shore up support during a by-election.
Meanwhile, Liberal candidate Leslie Church was defeated by the Conservatives‘ Don Stewart by just 590 votes.”
“This was obviously not the result we wanted, but I want to be clear that I hear the concerns and frustrations,” Trudeau said in Vancouver.
“These are not easy times. And it is clear, that I and my entire Liberal team, have much more hard work to do to deliver tangible, real progress that Canadians can see and feel.”

Trudeau has said he intends to lead the party into the next election. The Liberals have been in power since 2015 but are trailing badly in the polls amid concerns over the cost of living.
“Justin’s position is seriously weakened inside the party,” Canadian historian Robert Bothwell said.
Bothwell said there had been solidarity with Trudeau’s leadership, noting some have just left the government rather than publicly grumble, but he expects comments now.
One of Trudeau’s closest allies backed him.
“The prime minister is committed to leading us into the next election, and he has our support,” Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said.
Opposition Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre demanded that Trudeau call a snap election after what he described as a “shocking upset.”
“Here is the verdict: Trudeau can’t go on like this,” Poilievre said on X.
Trudeau’s popularity took a nosedive due to his Globalist policies, which brought about a lack of affordable housing, declining living standards, cost of living, and crippling carbon taxes pushing up petrol prices.
The by-election is “Trudeau’s last stand.”
“According to projections by 338Canada, the Conservatives would take 209 seats if an election had been held on June 23 – substantially clear of the 172 seats needed for a majority – while the Liberals would topple to 70.”
In May, the Fraser Institute held a study showing that “Canada was suffering one of its worst declines in living standards in 40 years.”
