Former President Donald Trump is reportedly considering hiring Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk to fill the White House advisory role if he wins the 2024 presidential election.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump and Musk have had several phone calls per month since March as the former president seeks powerful donors to back him. Anonymous sources have told WSJ that Musk is also seeking an outlet for his desired policies.
However, the two had a more contentious relationship in the past.
In July 2022, Trump dismissed Musk as “another bullshit artist” during a rally.
Musk later snapped back, calling on Trump to “hang up his hat and sail into the sunset.”
But their relations have taken a more positive turn in recent months.

Trump first met Musk at the home of billionaire Nelson Peltz, and they have spoken to each other about various problems in the U.S., including illegal immigration.
Trump told CNBC at the time:
“I’ve been friendly with him over the years. I helped him when I was president. I helped him. I’ve liked him.”
He later acknowledged that he and Musk “obviously have opposing views on a minor subject called electric cars.”

Reuters reported: Musk has said that Biden is intentionally allowing migrants to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. He has also endorsed antisemitic comments on X, though Musk has denied being antisemitic.
While he has publicly criticized Biden’s policies on immigration, electric vehicles, and tariffs, Musk has not made any formal endorsement in November’s contest, and Trump has said he does not know if he has the billionaire’s support.
Despite Musk stating he doesn’t plan to donate to any White House campaign in 2024, the WSJ reports that he told Trump that he would hold get-togethers to discourage his wealthy and powerful allies from backing Biden.
Musk said he is working alongside Peltz to create a big data-driven initiative to ensure votes are counted legitimately.
