Disgraced former attorney for President Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, has lost his bid for early release from probation.
Cohen was a witness against Trump in a case in New York.
Earlier this year, Trump pleaded “not guilty” to 34 counts in connection with the case.
On Friday, US District Judge Jesse M Furman in Manhattan ruled past statements made by Michael Cohen a in a book and a television appearance as reasons he should not be granted early release from early probation.
Moreover, the Judge said there was enough reassurance that Cohen wouldn’t commit future crimes.
According to The Associated Press, prosecutors allege that Cohen wrote a book where he lied about engaging in tax fraud and that prosecutors pressured him to be guilty.
Chen’s lawyer David M. Schwartz said his client “clearly demonstrated” he had been rehabilitated because of his “good behavior” in prison while “substantially cooperated with all government authorities.”
In 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including lying to Congress and violating campaign finance law.
In April, Trump filed a $500 million lawsuit against Cohen, alleging he damaged Trump’s reputation by breach of ethics.
As The Daily Fetched reported:
The lawsuit filed in the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday claimed that “Plaintiff has suffered vast reputational harm as a direct result of Defendant’s breaches.”
“Such continuous and escalating improper conduct by [Cohen] has reached a proverbial crescendo and has left [Trump] with no alternative but to seek legal redress through this action,” the lawsuit states, adding that Trump has “suffered vast reputational harm as a direct result of [Cohen’s] breaches,” the lawsuit said according to Fox News.
The lawsuit also notes how Cohen lavished extensive praise upon Trump before abruptly turning against him.
Referencing Cohen’s various media appearances, the lawsuit also notes how the former lawyer had ‘been admiring Donald Trump since high school,’ adding the Defendant viewed Plaintiff as a “wonderful man” who would be “an amazing president.”
Cohen was considered a star witness in DA Bragg’s indictment against Trump, which accuses him of falsifying business records concerning alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.
