Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has revealed that Republican Gov. Brian Kemp (GA) has opposed launching a criminal investigation into Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and prefers an oversight committee investigation that would slow-walk accountability.
Greene told Breitbart that Kemp and Georgia Attorney General Christopher Carr are seeking to use the state’s oversight committee to investigate Willis for her alleged relationship with a top prosecutor in their case against Donald Trump.
The outlet noted:
The committee operates like a disciplinary commission with the power to remove county prosecutors from public office. As with all committees, they move very slowly and often are highly political. Greene said the committee would not be ready for months to launch a probe. Meanwhile, Greene added, Willis’s prosecution is drying up Trump and fellow codefendants’ resources.
“I really want to see more action out of state leaders,” Greene said about Kemp’s approach. “I want to be a lot more aggressive.”
“They’re [Kemp, Carr] sitting back and waiting,” she said.
“It’s also no secret I don’t think either one of them supports President Trump.”
While Greene said that while she likes the creation of the disciplinary committee to investigate county prosecutors, she warned that the proposed committee could stall an investigation.
“They want to sit back” and not “weaponize government in any way. ‘We want to let this oversight committee do its job,'” she explained Kemp’s thinking.
“But if they sit there and do that constantly, the Democrats will keep winning,” she argued.
Last week, Greene filed a complaint against Willis, seeking the dismissal of the charges against Trump due to her alleged corruption.
Greene had “high expectations” that Kemp and Carr would begin a criminal probe into Willis, noting “there’s so much proof” of wrongdoing in Willis’s prosecution of Trump.
On Sunday, Willis lashed out at Greene during an address to churchgoers at Big Bethel AME.
Willis indirectly addressed the allegations during her first public remarks since the news broke.
The Fulton County DA has repeatedly attempted to portray herself and Wade as victims of racial discrimination, even declaring, “You can’t expect black women to be perfect.”
Willis claimed that Greene has become “filled with hate.”
“Dear God, I do not want to be like those that attacked me. I never want to be a Marjorie Taylor Greene who has never met me but has allowed her spirit to be filled with hate,” she said.
“How does this woman, who has the honor of being a leader in my state, how is it that she has not reached out to me?”
Willis touched on the incident where she was “swatted,” which Greene was also a target of on many occasions.
