Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, was reprotley stabbed by an inmate in federal prison on Friday.
According to a source, the incident happened at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona.
Chauvin was convicted for the murder of Floyd in 2020, which sparked nationwide violent protests.
The Bureau of Prisons reported the incident at around 12:30 p.m. Friday
The agency said the incident was contained by prison employees while “life-saving measures” on an inmate but didn’t confirm it was Derek Chauvin who was stabbed.
The inmate was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment, the Bureau of Prisons said.
“Responding employees initiated life-saving measures for one incarcerated individual,” and that person was transferred to a hospital for treatment, the bureau’s statement said.
“No employees were injured during the incident,” the statement said.
Conservative jorunalist Jack Poso reacted to the report on X, writing:

CNN reported:
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, whose office prosecuted Chauvin in the George Floyd case, was notified that Chauvin was stabbed and is in stable condition, his office told CNN early Saturday.
“I am sad to hear that Derek Chauvin was the target of violence,” Ellison said in a release from his office.
He was duly convicted of his crimes and, like any incarcerated individual, he should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence.”
This marks the second incident at the prison since 2022.
Last year, an inmate at the prison’s low-security camp attempted to shoot a visitor in the head, but the weapon was misfired.
Chauvin was sentenced to 21 years for federal civil rights charges and a 22.5-year sentence for the state-level charge of second-degree murder.
In court documents, Chauvin’s lawyer, Eric Nelson, wrote that his client should be kept away from other prisoners.
The news comes as Chauvin attempts to overturn the federal civil rights conviction.
According to a filing earlier this month, Chauvin said he wouldn’t have pleaded guilty if he was aware of the theories of a pathologist from Kansas.
