The body of a missing Netflix engineer was found floating in San Francisco Bay as the cause of death was revealed by authorities.
Yohanes Kidane, 22, who had moved to San Fransico to become a software engineer for the video streaming platform, was pulled from waters northeast of the Golden Gate Bridge Tuesday morning.
A passing boat had spotted Kidane’s body and called the Coast Guard, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said.
His death has been determined to be a suicide, the sheriff confirmed.
Kidane disappeared on August 14 after he was last seen leaving his San Jose apartment in an Uber.
Kidane’s body showed “advanced decomposition, prolonged exposure to the aquatic environment, and appreciable depredation,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The coroner identified the remains as Kidane’s and promptly notified the young engineer’s family.
The cause of death was determined to be a combination of blunt impact injuries and drowning, and the manner was suicide, The New York Post reported.
Kidane’s cell phone, backpack, and wallet were found near the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center after he went missing.
According to his photo data, he was at the bridge most of the night that he disappeared.
His family and friends said Kidane told a friend he had a concerning experience in a rideshare car days before going missing.
He reportedly said the driver had taken him on a roundabout way to his apartment, insisting they drive through Oakland.
Kidane’s loved ones started a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised more than $100,000 in donations
“We want to take him home. I need my son. I need my son,” Kidane’s mother, Mehret Hana Beyene, told KTVU last month.
“He’s a good man who has a bright future, very loving to his family.”
